About the fiber
LENZING™ Modal standard fibers are certified by TÜV AUSTRIA⁶ as biodegradable in soil, freshwater and marine environments under the conditions covered by the applicable certificates. Made from the natural raw material wood and independently tested for defined food-contact applications involving dry foods, these fibers can be used as an alternative to plastic in selected packaging applications. Used in reusable nets and bags, they provide softness and durability.⁷

Suitable for food contact
LENZING™ Modal fibers have been tested by SQTS (Swiss Quality Testing Service), an independent external test institute and are verified to be suitable for food contact applications in dry fillings.³
Manufacturing process
The LENZING™ Modal production process includes the recovery and reuse of process chemicals. According to Higg MSI version 3.12, LENZING™ Modal shows lower impacts than generic modal across assessed impact categories of abiotic depletion of fossil fuels, global warming, water scarcity, and eutrophication.⁴
